GP-led CDM plans welcome
For me it comes back to one idea: the nervous system is the body’s control system, and almost everything else is downstream of it. For more than a decade, including with professional ice hockey teams in Canada and New Zealand, I’ve worked with people whose recovery hasn’t followed the usual path.
“Almost no one is as far gone as they’ve been told. The right assessment finds the actual driver, and once you find it, the plan writes itself.”
More about Zac
A precise, evidence-led
approach, built around you
Most people I see have already been somewhere else. They’ve been told their scan is clear, their tests are normal, that they should just rest, or that this is “as good as it’s going to get.” That’s almost never true. The right assessment, in my experience, finds the actual driver, and once you find it, the plan writes itself.
Your first visit is 60 minutes, enough time to take a real history, do a thorough neurological and musculoskeletal exam, and start treatment. You walk out with a plan, not a referral to a third visit. I use hands-on, evidence-based treatments including dry needling, vestibular and oculomotor rehab, and exercise prescription, but only what’s actually indicated for you.
Athletes of any level and any sport · people with persistent symptoms that haven’t responded to other treatment · patients referred under a GP-led Chronic Disease Management plan · coaches, parents and clubs needing concussion guidance · patients referred for a second opinion on neuro-rehab cases.
If your case isn’t a fit for what I do, or you’d be better served by a colleague at The Health Lodge or another specialist, I’ll tell you on the first visit.
Through Concussion Education Australia, Osteopathy Australia’s officially endorsed CPD program [confirm], I train health professionals across the country in modern concussion management. It means the care you receive is the same up-to-date, evidence-informed approach I teach other clinicians every day.
THE FULL STORY
From elite sport to the hardest cases
Zac Lewis is an AHPRA-registered osteopath with over a decade of clinical practice, focused on concussion recovery, neurological rehabilitation and complex musculoskeletal care. He holds a Bachelor of Clinical Science and a Master of Osteopathic Medicine.
His career began in elite sport, working alongside team physicians for professional ice hockey clubs in Canada and New Zealand, managing acute concussion, complex orthopaedic injury, and the difficult work of getting an athlete safely back to competition. But the deeper pull was always neurology: the most complex area of physiology, and the one everything else runs downstream of.
As founder of Concussion Education Australia, Zac has trained hundreds of allied health clinicians nationwide, and is a keynote speaker at the Osteopathy Australia National Conference in October 2026. He is currently involved in neuroscience research focused on improving the diagnostic and prognostic standards of concussion care.
At The Health Lodge, Zac works alongside GPs, naturopaths, psychologists and other integrative practitioners — so his patients have access not just to specialised neurological and rehabilitation care, but to coordinated medical management when their case calls for it.
01
Concussion & Post- Concussion Recovery
A concussion disturbs brain function after an impact to the head or body. Most resolve within weeks, but many people are left with symptoms that persist far longer, often after being told everything looks normal. Zac assesses recent injuries through to symptoms that have lingered for months or years, including cases previously “cleared” that never fully resolved.
02
Neurological Rehabilitation
The nervous system underpins how we move, balance, focus and process the world, so when it’s disrupted, symptoms can be diffuse and hard to pin down. Zac offers targeted neurological rehabilitation, with particular expertise in the vestibular (balance) and oculomotor (eye-movement) systems so often involved after concussion.
03
Sports & Complex Musculoskeletal Care
Some injuries, and some athletes, don’t respond to the standard playbook. Drawing on years managing elite ice hockey players through injury and return to play, Zac works with sporting and stubborn musculoskeletal cases where previous treatment hasn’t delivered lasting results.
