Dr Melanie Dearlove -

As a respected Osteopath in Byron Bay, Dr Melanie Dearlove’s fascination with the human body, human movement and the body’s ability to heal itself began at an early age. She vividly remembers watching people and asking them why they walked in a certain way and this fascination translated into her love of movement therapy, including dance, sport, competitive aerobics, Yoga and HIIT exercise.

Dr Melanie Dearlove Ba App Sc (Osteopathy), M. (Osteopathy)

As a respected Osteopath in Byron Bay Dr Melanie Dearlove’s fascination with the human body, human movement and the body’s ability to heal itself began at an early age. She vividly remembers watching people and asking them why they walked in a certain way and this fascination translated into her love of movement therapy, including dance, sport, competitive aerobics, Yoga and HIIT exercise.

Ultimately, her passions led her to Osteopathy, which she first experienced as a patient in a quest to find a modality to assist in healing her injuries and reducing her pain. Dr Dearlove was instantly drawn to the holistic nature of Osteopathy, as it considers the entire human body. She is now a Sutherland Craniosacral Osteopathic Practitioner and a GEMt Dry Needle Practitioner.

The Health Lodge

It was a holistic approach to healing that led Dr Dearlove to join the team at The Health Lodge. After 15 years of clinical practice in Sydney, she relocated to Byron Bay for its beauty, lifestyle and the opportunity to work as part of an integrated team of professionals. She is now a well-known Osteopath in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.

What sets Dr Dearlove apart from other practitioners is her ability to “look outside the box” in her clinical practice, which fits in well with the approach taken at The Health Lodge. Dr Dearlove is excited to work integratively with practitioners from multiple modalities of healthcare who share her ideal of holistic integrative health and she brings a wealth of experience to the team.

How can Dr Dearlove optimise your health and wellbeing?

Dr Dearlove specialises in acute, chronic and complicated cases from the newborn to the elderly and all the different bodies in between. She is passionate about Osteopathy’s holistic approach of mind, body and spirit, because it focuses on the cause of pain, disease and dysfunction, not just on the symptoms presented by her clients. In short, Osteopathy considers the structures of the body and how their interconnections affect overall function (physically, mentally and emotionally). This approach is important because our bodies deal with a variety of stressors, from the small everyday activities to severe physical trauma.

As a highly regarded Osteopath in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, Dr Dearlove excels at identifying these seemingly insignificant everyday activities that can result in changes to the body’s mechanics. Whilst, you might not be aware of these activities or patterns, they can create long term changes in your body. That’s because your brain slowly changes, adapts and compensates, correlating with changes in your synapses, muscle firing patterns, strength and flexibility, in order to keep yourself upright and “functioning”.

These adaptations can be as simple as changing your office desk setup, how you hold your child, the way you drive your car, your sleeping patterns, and so on. They can also relate to more specific biomechanics in the way you play sports or train. When treating her clients, Dr Dearlove takes these aspects into consideration, focussing on evaluation, education and the individualised treatment of your specific biomechanics. She addresses your needs and creates an effective treatment protocol for your ongoing care.

Dr Dearlove specialises in the following conditions:

  • Pain, stress relief and maintenance
  • Posture and body mechanics
  • Sports injuries
  • Sport biomechanics
  • Movement and range of motion
  • Physical instability
